It Takes a Village for Virtual Worship

If you've been moved by what we're offering and want to get involved, here's how you can help:

1) Usher Ushers work the "waiting room" and help to safeguard against Zoom bombing.

2) Host Our Zoom services are coordinated by a "Host" who helps to run our tech rehearsals and coordinate coffee hour

3) Build The Program Our worship looks professional because it is. If you are familiar with QLAB software or want to learn, this is how we build the service and create seamless transitions between portions of the liturgy.

About Worship

Sunday mornings are when First Unitarian Church gathers together to honor that which is most meaningful in our lives. Through moving music and stories, sermons from our Ministers or guest preacher, prayers, poetry, and silence, our worship services invite us to rejoice and grieve, connect to our own worth and bring love and justice into the world. Each week, all kinds of people – seekers and believers, atheists and agnostics, people of all races, creeds, abilities, ages, sexual orientations, immigration statuses, and gender expressions, gather to worship and celebrate the gifts of life.

Want to experience it for yourself? Join us this Sunday at 11:00 AM!

What to expect on Sunday Mornings

Our congregation welcomes you to “come as you are” – people will be wearing everything from jeans to suits to, in the case of some of our kids, superhero costumes! Greeters will welcome you on the front porch or side door on Van Pelt street (where our ramp is) and offer you an Order of Service. Visitors and newcomers are invited to put on a nametag and fill out a connect card, if they would like to learn more about the congregation.

Then, just find a place to sit and enjoy the service! Our services include hymns, prayer and meditation, a sermon from our Ministers or guest preacher, music from our choirs, ensembles, or solo musicians, reflection from a member of our community, and a time to greet those around us.

After the Service, everyone is invited into our Parish Room to enjoy coffee and snacks and to get to know one another.

Children:

We love having babies, children, youth, and families of all kinds in our community! Half of our Sundays, the children in our community begin in the Sanctuary and participate in a “Time for All Ages” – a story, dramatization, or interactive conversation with the minister. The other half of the month, children are invited to begin with “Children’s Chapel,” a spiritually enriched and engaging service for children.

The Order of Service or the Ushers will say where Children are beginning services each Sunday.

Following the Time for All Ages or Children’s Chapel, most kids head into our Children’s Religious Education programming. We also have a nursery for the smallest among us.

During services, babies and children are welcome to be in the  nursery, or to take part in Children’s Religious Education, and they are also completely welcome to stay in the Sanctuary with their families. At the back of the Sanctuary, we have a rocking chair and carpeted space which is often occupied by parents and babies who want space to move around.
